  • Dr PoulamiAich Mukherjee, Department of History was honoured with the ‘Young Social Scientist Award’ by the Indian Planning Commission for the project work on “Problems and Prospects on Women’s Higher Education in Post Colonial India”.

  • UGC Sponsored Women’s Hostel for PG students (Alphonsa Hostel), a wing in Vimala Hostel managed by CMC sisters is established.
  • Renovation of Auditorium and renaming it as ‘Fr. William Memorial Hall’ - in memory of Rev Fr Thomas William CMI MA LT, the first Principal of the College.
  • Indoor Court for Basket Ball is established.

  • Launching of Golden Jubilee Memorial All Kerala Basketball Tournament and inter-collegiate elocution Competition in English and Malayalam.

  • The Principal of S B College Rev Fr Thomas William CMI becomes the Principal of Assumption College.
  • Rev Sr Mary Xavier SABS is appointed Vice Principal of the College.
1949
  • The women’s section of St Berchmans College is given the name ‘Assumption College' to commemorate the proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary.
  • His Excellency Rt Rev Dr James Kalacherry, the Bishop of Changanassery establishes a separate division for women in St Berchmans College to facilitate University education for the women of Kerala.
  • The foundation stone for the women’s wing is laid on 12 August 1949 the vision is taken up by Rt Rev Dr Mathew Kavukattu.
